Moldova disposes of better opportunities for skills development and upgrade in Water and Sanitation Sector (WSS).

Training and capacity development in order to address the required human resources needs for the water sector. Qualitative improvement of initial and continuous training programmes by developing the collaboration between the water sector and the VET system in Moldova. Provision of financial support for the upgrading of infrastructure and equipment of training institutions. External input and knowledge management support through capacity building activities targeting VET teachers and instructors that deliver water-related education programmes. Necessary human resources development and infrastructure for performance-based assessment.

Curricula for 2 WSS related occupations updated, endorsed and pilot schools equipped according to the requirements of the new curricula; Technical and pedagogical training programs for the teachers and instructors of 2 WSS occupations implemented and teacher training capacities for these WSS occupations established; Initial and further training courses based upon new curricula for WSS relevant occupations implemented and graduates of training courses assessed.

Results achieved:

• 2 vocational curricula for initial vocations produced and successfully piloted, for the occupations: - plumber and - electrical fitter and approved by the Ministry of Education for implementation in 8 VET schools starting with September 2013;
• 55 young students involved in modular curricula implementation
• 4 short-term adult training courses developed
• 2 short-term adult training courses implemented with 55 adults
• 2 VET schools (former Liceul Profesional no. 2  from Chișinău and Școala Profesioanală no.9 from Chișinău) were project pilot instutions
• Training/learning materials related to the curricula developed, printed and distributed to those 2 pilot schools as well to other schools with similar profile
• 8 VET trainers and 4 management staff benefited of capacity development activities that were meant to improve the partner institutions’ training offer in terms of format and quality;
• 4 trainers of trainers for the Water and Sanitation Sector trained
• 2 practical training workshops for plumber and electrical fitter (one per school and occupation) fully renovated, equipped with up-to-date tools and machinery;
• 2 guides (Curriculum Development Guide and Competency-Based Assessment Guide) developed, printed and distributed to 11 VET schools;
• 40 performance guides developed
• 275 test instruments developed
• 5 training sessions focused on dissemination of best practices developed within the project organised for 9 additional VET schools.
• Analytical Study on needs analysis in WSS carried out and presented.
