Objectives: 
  • Increasing capacity of the selected rural communities of Georgia, Armenia and Moldova by sharing and introducing the European approaches and experience of the 3R principle of waste management
  • The development of transboundary cooperation and cross-sectoral partnership for anti-littering protection, public awareness raising and environmental education in rural areas of Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Romania

Description: 

The project implementation started on May 1st 2020 in the participating countries. The project involves 5 partners: Tskaltubo Municipality, as Lead Partner and Project Partners: REC Caucasus Armenia (Armenia), Ungheni City Hall (Moldova), Tehnopol Galati Association (Romania), Imereti Scientists’ Union “Spectri” (Georgia).       

The project aims to contribute to the improvement of environmental quality and reducing river littering in rural areas by supporting the introduction of modern practice of waste management    

Also the project aims at environmental awareness raising through the cross-boundary cooperation and cross-sectoral partnership in Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Romania.


Actions Components: 

Will be shared the EU experience and best practice of waste separation/recycling in rural areas. Study tour to Galati (Romania) for representatives of Georgia, Armenia and Moldova

Will be established the Consultation and Education Point on Recycling in Ungheni (Moldova), for the introduction of Ungheni City’s waste separation experience in the rural communities of Ungheni district established

Will be promoted the composting in the selected rural communities of Georgia, Armenia and Moldova promoted

Will be implemented Anti-Littering education program regarding river and marine litter problems and the 3R principle of waste management in Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Romania

Will be carried out trainings on 3R principles of waste management for target groups carried out

Will be carried out Clean up events in Georgia, Armenia,  Moldova and Romania

Will be carried out National Forums on waste-free rural areas in Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Romania 

Will be created the cross-boundary network “Rural Areas Without Waste” with participation of representatives of Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Romania established

 


Activity Summary: 

The project will facilitate the introduction of waste management best practices based on the EU approaches in selected rural areas of Georgia, Armenia and Moldova. One of the main responsibilities of Ungheni City Hall is to support the improvement of waste management systems in rural communities. Within the project, collection points will be established to demonstrate the sorting of plastic and paper in 5 rural communities in Ungheni district.

One of the main goals of project is to raise the level of public awareness and improve education regarding river and marine litter problems, the importance of environmental protection, and the modern waste management practice. 

To that end, there will be used such tools as the implementation of anti-littering educational program for schools and information campaigns, direct involvement of citizens in environmental and Clean Up events. Different publications about river litter, modern waste management will be made for target groups of the project.
